Business Women Partnership Project

The German Association for Businesswomen (VdU) in cooperation with GPP is supporting in the framework of a Partnership Project three Egyptian businesswomen associations to build up their institutional capacities.
These are the women entrepreneurs' associations:
- Business Women of Egypt 21 (BWE 21), Giza
- Alexandria Business Woman Association (ABWA), Alexandria
- Business Women for Development (BWD), Cairo
The project goal of the 2nd main phase is: Growth processes in the businesswomen associations are enhanced through service improvements and the co-operation between associations and businesswomen. Furthermore the joint web portal, Businesswomen in Egypt facilitates the access to information, training and support and fosters the developments of networks and enhanced communication among the members of the business women associations.
The Partnership Projects for Egyptian Businesswomen is supported by the German Federal Ministry for economic cooperation and development (BMZ) through SEQUA gGmbH.
Partnership Project with Chambers of Industry and Commerce in the Kurdistan Region, Iraq
Project Duration: First Main Phase: March 2010 – February 2013
Project partner in the Kurdistan Region, Iraq:

The overall objective of the project is to improve the environment for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the autonomous region of Kurdistan / Iraq.
Project objective is to strengthen the Chambers of commerce and Industry in the Kurdistan Region as a contribution to an orderly, stabilizing and sustainable economic development in the Kurdistan Region.
The project activities are aimed at strengthening the Chambers in their role as service providers and stakeholders and to provide SMEs a better sustained services.
The "Partnership project between the Association of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce and Chambers of Commerce and Industry in Northern Iraq" is financially supported by the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) via sequa gGmbH - Partner of German Business. GPP is responsible for the technical steering and the project management.
Green Construction for Egypt: 2009-2011 Public-Private-Partnership-Project (PPP)
The aim of this project is to transfer know-how in "Green Construction", to enhance the capabilities of Egyptian engineers and architects for the use of modern technologies and the development of sustainable, energy-efficient buildings. This is established in a first step, providing appropriate training in the field of "Green Construction" in cooperation with local partners and institutions that can offer on the long run the training in the field of "Green Construction" in Egypt.
Within the framework of this project, a series of workshops and other activities in Cairo and Alexandria will take place.

Global Project Partners (GPP) exercise in this project, the project coordination. The project is financially supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) through GTZ, Eschborn.
Strengthening the Export Potential of Egyptian Handicrafts
Global Project Partners (GPP) is coordinating the newly signed Public-Private Partnership Project, Strengthening the Export Potential of Egyptian Handicrafts'. The project aims at upgrading the Egyptian handicrafts products to open new Export markets and to support the Egyptian fair trade network. The target group of the project is Egyptian handicraft producers, especially women from rural areas. They will receive support for developing handicrafts precuts which are ready to be exported. This will be achieved through training activities through our partner Fair Trade Egypt. The project has started in April 2007 and will last for two years.
In the framework of the project a series of workshops and activities will be organized to upgrade the Egyptian handicrafts designs. Further, the Egyptian companies will exhibit at the fair Import Shop Berlin for two successive years (2007-2009).

Export Promotion and Development (EXPAND)
EXPAND was a Public Private Partnership Project supported by the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation (BMZ) and SEQUA.
In the framwork of EXPAND, GPP in co-operation with the Federal Association of German Wholesale and Foreign Trade (BGA) have launched the Online Platform
"EXPAND-Online" for exporters in developing countries. This online platform enables exporters to be linked with the German trade and import associations most appropriate for their products.

Energy Manager Egypt (2010-2012) Public-Private-Partnership-Project (PPP)
The aim of the project is to qualify experts and decision makers in order to enhance the awareness, knowledge and qualifications in the area of energy management to promote the use of renewable energy and the implementation of energy effciciency measurements.
To achieve this aim the curricula for the „European Energy Manager“ is adjusted to the Egyptian needs and circumstances. This curricula is implementes in a practical training course „European Energy Manager – licesed for Egypt“. In addiction to this the project plans to set up a national Energy Manager Network.

Enhancing the road safety in Egypt (2010-2012) Public-Private-Partnership-Project (PPP)
The project aims to enhance the driving competence of Egyptian driving instructors, bus- and truck drivers. In addition to this the project is supposed to contribute to the awareness regarding road safety.
To achieve these aims the project will implement a Mercedes-certified course of instruction for driving instructors at the Egyptian Training Center of Excellence (ETCE) after it is adjusted to the Egyptian surroundings. In cooperation with the German-Arab Chamber of Industry and Commerce and the Egyptian Red Crescent the project will conduct different events in schools to raise the awareness among the people for road safety.

Textile export workshops Egypt
Duration: December 2004 - December 2006
The Public Private Partnership project "Textile Export workshop" had the goal to increase the competitiveness especially of small and medium companies in the Egyptian textile industry. The project partners Systain Consulting, German-Arab Chamber of Commerce and Industry and GPP have organized the workshop together.
The topics included "Building the value chain in textile sector", "design and development of textile products" and "distribution channels and marketing for export to Germany and the EU". To secure a long-term know-how transfer additional Egyptian trainers were trained.

Upgrading the Production Process Applied to Herbal Products (Spices and Herbs) Egypt
Duration: March 2005 - October 2005
Global Project Partners implemented the project „Upgrading the Production Process Applied to Herbal Products“ (spices and herbs) in order to modernise processing techniques, developing packing and packaging methods, storage, presenting international quality specifications as well as introducing the preparation steps for quality control and quality certificates of ISO and HACCP.
The implemented activities comprised advisory services, technical training measures as well as laboratory training in Egypt. The beneficiaries of this project were eight small and medium sized Egyptian companies (growers, processors and exporters) working in the fields of herbal products, specifically herbs, spices and essential oils.
This project was implemented in the framework of the Egyptian Industrial Modernisation Programme and on behalf of the Egyptian Industrial modernisation Centre (IMC).
Egyptian Business Institutional Support (EBIS)
Partnership Program Egypt / Germany (Food Business Trade Facilitation Partnership Program)
Duration: December 2004 - November 2005
The general objective of this project between the:
- Federation of German Wholesale and Foreign Trade (BGA), Berlin
- Chamber of Food Industries (CFI), Cairo
- IET Services GmbH, the service company of the BGA, Berlin
and Global Project Partners was to raise the competitiveness of the Egyptian food products in order to increase its export opportunities for the EU market as well as to potential third markets. Further, the project aimed at supporting the CFI and its staff members in order to increase their scope of services offered to their member companies. Both elements were seen as a mutual benefit for both European importers and Egyptian exporters.
This project comprised information about marketing and distribution in Germany and the EU, packaging and German and EU food law and the improvement of services in the Egyptian Chamber of Food Industries. Two conferences which took place in Cairo and several delegation trips of CFI staff to Germany and Brussels served for mutual exchange, a better understanding of structures in Germany and the EU, a sustainable transfer of knowledge and increased the staff's capabilities in areas crucial for successful work of the chamber.
This project was implemented in the framework of the EBIS Program which was managed by Eurochambres and financially supported by the Egyptian Industrial Modernisation Centre (IMC).
In August 2005 the project partners CFI, BGA and GPP signed a Memorandum of Understanding in order to institutionalise the cooperation in the future. The project partners have signed a Memorandum of Understanding in August 2005 for continuation and institutionalization of positive cooperation.
The Fruit Trade Academy (Egypt)
Duration: January 2003 - December 2005
Global Project Partners (GPP) coordinated "The Fruit Trade Academy", a newly signed "Public-Private-Partnership Project". The project aimed to develop a curriculum for Egyptian exporters of fresh fruits and vegetables, spices, herbs, and essential oils to Germany - the largest importer of such products in Europe - and the EU.
In the framework of the project, an online platform for packaging rules and regulations in the EU and Germany as well as the maximum allowed pesticide residue levels was launched. The platform was developed in cooperation with the Atlanta 1x1 Company in Bremen. The platform is available in English, Spanish and French.

Partnership Project with selected Syrian Chambers of Industry and Commerce, Syria 2006 - 2007

The Syrian project partners are:
- Damascus Chamber of Industry
- Aleppo Chamber of Industry
- Homs Chamber of Commerce
The objective of this project was to enhance the capabilities of the Syrian partner chambers to provide demand-driven services to their members.
The target group of this project were small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) which should be assisted in their abilities and potentials to create income and employment. The selected three self-governing organisations of the Syrian economy acted as central intermediary to achieve the target group. The project activities aimed at strengthening the chambers in their role as service provider and stakeholder to provide small and medium-sized enterprises a better and sustainable range of services offered.
The "Partnership Project with selected Syrian Chambers of Industry and Commerce" was financially supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) via SEQUA. GPP was responsible for the project management.
Young Fashion Designers for Egypt – a qualification programme for young fashion designers in Egypt
The aim of this project is to establish an enduring qualification programme for fashion designers in Egypt. The programme contributes to the added value of the Egyptian textile industry as well as to the creation of new jobs and income in the creative sector.
Project duration:October 2011 to November 2013
The project aims at qualifying instructors in a train-the trainer programme for the fashion design sector. During the project and later on, these instructors will contribute to an enduring advancement of the designers and their goods by teaching them in different qualification workshops. The young designers will be intensively supported while developing their creative work. Furthermore the project will provide a training in entrepreneurial skills and the opportunity to exhibit the designer’s collections at the „Import Shop“ fair in Berlin.
